At the end of December we were told our main venue at Cody needed to close for some structural repairs and would re-open end of January leaving 7 of our 9 sessions a week with no place to train. As such, the committee have been working tirelessly to maintain the opportunity to train for some 150 players booking weekend and late evening slots anywhere we can find availability with thanks to fantastic support from other venues (Bohunt, Wavell, Heath End).

Cody is likely now to be closed until the end of April and we will continue to do our best to secure any space we can. This will not work for everyone as many have other commitments at weekends etc. but we can only work with what is available. Thankyou everyone for your patience and understanding, the club will be back to normal soon.

One great positive that has come from this is that it has enabled the club to share court time across squads and for players to experience 4v4 competitions which has supported our community spirit and engagement.

Big thanks to Tat for his full time attention in making it happen

The new 2024-25 indoor season opened in style with some exciting round of 64 National Shield ties, giving a number of clubs the opportunity to flex their muscles ahead of the start of their respective league seasons. Farnborough-based Phoenix put in an excellent performance and were the only non-NVL side in the women’s draw to progress to the last 32.  They swept to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 victory over a Cheltenham and Gloucester side who are newly-promoted to NVL Division 2 West for the new 2024-25 season.

The U18 boys in their first National Competitions Grand Prix won 2 games and lost 1 finishing on joint top points with 2 other teams in their pool. Great achievement. This is the first of a 4 series competition.

2 wins out of 2 for the Hawks and mixed results for both Phoenix and Vipers in the opening Berkshire League weekend

The Academy has been busy with over 30 junior boys and girls turning out for 6v6 and 4v4 tournaments in the Junior Series in Berkshire held in Bracknell.

Thanks to everyone who joined the Rushmoor activity day. Big thanks to Simon and Mara for helping. We met Sophie Christiansen, a Paralympic gold medalist complete with her medal! Tunde Adelakum, former assistant head coach of the Nigerian national football team and journalist. Alex Baker MP for Aldershot and Mara the Mayor of Rushmoor. FVC on the map!!!

The club has had an amazing year and we are moving forwards in many areas. Here’s a few of our highlights

Competition & Playing

•    Our Women’s Phoenix squad coached by Nigel Spierts have topped the Berkshire League Div 1 Women’s.
•    In addition, they were crowned SEVA (South East Volleyball Association) Champions after a close final against finalists Oxford. A fantastic achievement and indicator of just how far the squad has moved forward.
•    They narrowly missed out on the triple beaten in the Berkshire Plate by Reading.

•    Vipers in the Men’s, after being relegated last season to Div 2 Berkshire League successfully secured a play-off place for promotion where they put on a thrilling performance to secure promotion back to Division 1.

•    Hawks with many of our junior men playing achieved an admirable 4th place in Div 2 narrowly missing out on the play-offs
•    Panthers mixed team came second in their Div 1 BVA league
•    Lynx Mixed team did not come last in the second Mixed league.

Juniors
•    Our juniors go from strength to strength – with a second improver session added after Christmas, immediately fill and now nearly 80 junior players.
•    Several junior members attending the Volleyball England trials at Easter (Oliver, James, Monlina) for the South East regional development programme.
•    The Junior U16 squad competed in the Berkshire Junior Cup coming 3rd
•    We have organised several friendly tournaments and games with our wider volleyball communities across Reading and Guildford which the kids have found hugely enjoyable and have provided great competition and challenge.

Social
•    Our social volleyball night on Wednesdays led by Ally continues to attract a good crowd to enjoy the sport

•    Our summer activity at Traco Club Aldershot is proving a huge success with 2 or 3 courts regularly in use.
